West Midlands Police

Mobility & Automation Manager

Strategic delivery lead with sole responsibility for two flagship digital capabilities — the Mobility Competency Centre and the Centre for Applied Automation — each responsible for transforming how West Midlands Police operates at scale.

Mobility Competency Centre

Orchestrated a full architectural redesign around user experience, increasing daily usage by 30%, achieving 100% adoption, and recovering over 2 million unproductive officer hours per year.
Built and led a cross-functional team to deliver 30+ applications and 14,000 devices to frontline officers and staff — improving data quality, compliance and public service outcomes across the force.
Held full responsibility for a multi-million pound annual budget and all associated contracts and supplier relationships.
Renegotiated the force's mobile contract, delivering approximately £2m per year in savings whilst securing enhanced terms — including two dedicated service advisors and a fully managed device lifecycle service.
Delivered a sector-first progressive web application for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games security operation, used by 6,000 individuals from 53 national organisations.
Led delivery across major sub-programmes including the Command & Dispatch replacement, Crime Recording System refresh, and national Microsoft 365 migration.
Earned a seat on Google's Android Enterprise Advisory Board and contributed to the Forrester Total Economic Impact for Android Enterprise — international recognition of WMP as a best-practice mobility organisation.
Reformed the device end-of-life process from hardware incineration to certified recycling and resale, generating additional revenue while ensuring data-safe disposal.

Centre for Applied Automation

Delivered a business case securing a 300% increase in team headcount and a full technology overhaul — returning over 1,000% ROI in year one.
Scaled the programme to 1.2 million automated transactions per year, saving 176,500 staff hours and delivering £5.45m in cost avoidance — with an error rate of just 0.15%.
In-housed web chat and chatbot capability, saving over £100,000 per annum and deflecting 20% of all inbound contact to digital self-service channels.
Coordinated sustained stakeholder engagement at all levels to keep the automation pipeline aligned to cross-divisional priorities and maintain executive sponsorship.
